Devin McCarthy is a published poet, award nominated actress and movement artist based in Los Angeles, California. She was raised amongst the deeply creative mountains that encompass the town of Telluride, Colorado. After high school, she found herself in London studying American Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College. It is there that she began to find her voice as an artist and gained the knowledge to confidently develop her work.

Devin is deeply inspired by the work of Sarah Kane and Patti Smith, attributing much of her ability to express herself via words to the hours she spent in the library reading Kane’s collection of plays. Devin’s work is visceral, intense, and open. She doesn’t believe in ‘playing it safe’, and it shows. In a society that aids us in desensitizing, she feels we have somewhat forgotten to have empathy and connect with one another.

It is her intention – in all she creates – to assist in the rediscovery of those emotions, both within yourself and others. Devin believes that art is deeply personal, each of us having our own response to a piece of art than the person directly next to us may have. She also trusts the power of art in a political form and has found that as a queer artist even her most personal work inevitably becomes political. Ultimately, Devin will always remain a student, forever searching and asking questions. For now, she invites you to experience, engage, and tap back into the ultra-creative state of being, derived from vulnerability.
